India showcased an all-round dominant display to win the fourth T20I against South Africa by 135 runs at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday.

The visitors set the tone right off the bat as the opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson got off to a flying start in the powerplay. The young left-hander was dismissed in the penultimate ball of the batting powerplay by Lutho Sipamla with the edge being carried to the wicketkeeper.

That was all the wickets that the Proteas could manage as Sanju along with Tilak Varma went on to bat through the rest of the innings, registering a 210-run partnership in the process. Both men went on to reach their respective centuries as India set a mammoth target of 284 runs, breaking several records in the process.

South Africa’s Gerald Coetzee was not able to bowl in the powerplay due to a hamstring issue which was eventually sorted but it was too late.

What seemed to be a fine batting track, suddenly turned the tides with the floodlights being turned on in the second innings. The Indian pacers now saw a lot of swing and bounce on offer which proved to be a menace that the hosts could not overcome.

Arshdeep Singh was on point with the new ball as he took three wickets in the powerplay to end South Africa’s hopes of coming close to the target. Hardik Pandya also chipped in with the wicket to get rid of Ryan Rickelton as the Proteas lost their top four batters within the first three overs.

The middle-order pair of Tristan Stubbs and David Miller looked to save face with an 86-run-stand in 54 balls. But the Indian spinners came into action as the former was dismissed by Ravi Bishnoi while Varun Chakravarthy got the latter.

Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee looked to redeem the side’s disappointing batting show with a couple of boundaries but it did not last long as the latter was dismissed by Axar Patel.

To end the game, Ramandeep Singh picked up his first international wicket to take the win and also clinch the four-match series 4-1.
