Union Minister and JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, on Thursday reaffirmed his party’s support for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) while responding to RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav’s statement that the doors of the opposition alliance are always open for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
“We are with the NDA and with full firmness. I cannot react to what people say – there is freedom of expression, people can say whatever they want,” Singh told the media.

Singh’s statement comes amid growing speculation following Lalu Prasad Yadav’s comments on January 1. In an interview with a YouTube channel, the RJD supremo remarked that “doors are open” for Nitish Kumar to rejoin the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan).
During the interview, Lalu stated, “Nitish Kumar can join us and work together.” He reiterated that his doors remain open for both the public and Nitish Kumar. Should Nitish decide to return, Lalu emphasised that there would be no issues in working together again.
However, Tejashwi Yadav, Lalu’s son, downplayed his father’s comments, saying, “You keep asking him this; what else would he say? He said this just to calm you all down.” He dismissed the remarks as an attempt to satisfy media curiosity.
Meanwhile, earlier today, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar gave a cryptic response to Lalu Prasad’s offer to return to the INDIA bloc. “Kya bol rahe hain (What are you saying)?” was all the JD(U) leader said in reply to questions from journalists about Prasad’s latest offer. Kumar had aligned with the RJD, a key member of the INDIA bloc, twice in the past decade.
Yadav’s remark, made against the backdrop of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s stance on projecting JD(U) supremo Nitish Kumar as the NDA’s face for the upcoming assembly elections, has triggered intense speculation in the media.
Bihar is preparing for assembly elections later this year, and as the election season draws closer, political circles are abuzz with statements and counter-statements from key leaders.
