Americana acquires Pizza Hut in Oman | MEED

Americana Restaurants International has acquired the Pizza Hut brand in Oman from the Khimji Ramdas Group.

This strategic acquisition encompasses 46 Pizza Hut outlets, which generated approximately $11m in revenue in 2024. The move aligns with Americana Restaurants’ strategy to broaden its regional presence and fortify its existing market stronghold.

Americana Restaurants, known for its brands including KFC and Hardee’s, has been operating in Oman since 1986.

In 2022, Americana Restaurants inked a franchise agreement with Yum! Brands to manage Pizza Hut operations across Saudi Arabia, excluding Jeddah. This acquisition in Oman boosts Americana’s Pizza Hut network to approximately 450 restaurants across the region.

By merging Pizza Hut’s local presence with Americana’s operations, the company aims to drive growth and enhance dining experiences. The acquisition also enables Americana to optimise operations and leverage digital advancements, such as online ordering and personalised marketing, to cater to evolving customer preferences and enhance convenience.

According to GlobalData, the fast food industry in Oman is poised for significant growth in 2025, driven by a combination of factors including rising household incomes, increased tourism activity and a developing retail sector.

The retail sector has shown resilience post-pandemic, with a strong performance in 2022 and the introduction of new brands. This growth is further supported by government investments in leisure and hospitality projects as part of the national 2040 Tourism Strategy, which aims to diversify the economy and enhance the retail landscape in urban areas such as Muscat.

Additionally, the expected increase in per capita income and overall consumption expenditure in Muscat will likely fuel demand for fast food options catering to both locals and tourists.
