Apple Has Stopped Selling This iPhone Accessory And We’re Not Shocked: Here’s Why – News18
Last Updated:
Apple has offered the lightning accessory for years but with a big change in iPhones it doesn’t need to anymore.
Apple has gradually cleared up the Intel models for the Macs in the last few years and now another big change is unfolding behind the scenes. The company still has a few iPhones that support the lightning connector for charging but you might have to hurry up to buy the standard headphone jack connector for these models.
That’s because Apple seems to be ending the support and production of this accessory, which is hardly surprising. The new iPhones from last year support USB C port, which means you need a whole different accessory to use the headphone jack, and Apple has them available in abundance.
However, the stock for the lightning version of the headphone jack connector might be living its last few days. Many regions have reported the product to be out of stock, and most likely, wherever you can find it, they might run out and never come back on the shelves again. The connector allowed you to use the wired earpods or any other wired earphones on the non-headphone jack iPhone models that came since the iPhone 7 series launch.
End Of The Lightning Era
Yes, the lightning connector had its time in the spotlight but not anymore. The company sold the iPhone 7, 8 and the iPhone X model with the connector in the box. Later, it was sold separately for $9 (Rs 840 approx) if people really needed one.
But the item going off the shelf means the lightning connector is slowly losing its value in the market. And when the lightning-supported iPhones are taken off the shelf in the next few years, Apple doesn’t need to invest in making the accessory anymore.
The company was forced into adopting USB C by the EU regulators because of its new stringent tech rules. And now that Apple does support USB C across its products, the end of the lightning-based accessories was inevitable. This isn’t the first Apple gadget to see its presence going off the market and won’t be the last.
