Archbishop Joseph Pamplany, recently appointed the metropolitan vicar of the Major Archbishop of the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese of the Syro-Malalbar Church, must win the confidence of the archdiocese and publicly declare that lay people and priests in the archdiocese are part of the Church, according to Alamaya Munnettam, a lay group.
In an appeal to the new vicar, the lay group said he must condemn the police action inside the Archbishop’s House on January 11. The group is opposed to the synod-imposed unified Mass.
For members of the archdiocese to repose their confidence in the synod, Archbishop Pamplany must create confidence that he is the spiritual father of the archdiocesan members, the group said.
It added that there was no meaning in continuing discussions with the Archbishop without the hierarchy viewing the priests and lay people as part of the archdiocese. The group also reiterated its demand to disband the curia of the archdiocese and freeze the action taken against some priests.
