Arsenal is reportedly set to lose one of their influential figures who played a key role in delivering a turnaround of fortunes. Sporting Director and a former player at the club, Edu Gaspar will exit the club.

According to a report by The Daily Mail, it remains unclear why Edu is leaving the position. However, it is suggested that he decided to leave the club following talks with the club’s hierarchy. As a result, there may have been a reshuffle in responsibilities among the Arsenal hierarchy in key positions.

The former Brazilian international, alongside the manager, Mikel Arteta, has played a massive role in helping turn the Gunners into title-contenders in the Premier League. Edu was responsible for bringing in a lot of the club’s star players and also helping offload the non-influential players as well.

Since taking up the role in 2019, Edu was responsible for selling off players like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Özil, Alexandre Lacazette and many others. He was also able to bring in world-class talents that are currently playing a big role in the current side. This includes the likes of Martin Ødegaard, Gabriel, William Saliba, Ben White and many more to help them take massive steps forward in the pursuit of a Premier League title.

Edu’s exit comes on the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Newcastle at St James’ Park on Saturday.
