The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, M. Jean-Noël Barrot, spoke on the telephone to his Bahraini counterpart, Mr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, today, Tuesday 21 January 2025.
The ministers welcomed the excellent bilateral relationship between France and Bahrain, which is filled with prospects of cooperation in every field, and signalled their shared desire to strengthen this partnership, particularly in the framework of the high-level bilateral committee.
The ministers discussed the regional situation. The [French] Minister welcomed the conclusion of an agreement on a ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza and emphasized that it should pave the way to a lasting peace based on the two-state solution. Regarding Syria, the Minister reiterated France’s commitment to a stringent political transition that is respectful of Syria’s pluralism and takes collective security challenges into account, first and foremost the fight against terrorism. The Minister said that, in Paris on 13 February 2025, France will host the next international conference dedicated to Syria, following the Aqaba and Riyadh meetings. The Minister repeated France’s concern over Iran’s destabilizing actions in the region and the need to put an end to them.
Finally, the ministers discussed global challenges, particularly protecting the oceans. The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs stressed the need for our two countries to play an active role in the run-up to the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), to be held in Nice from 9 to 13 June 2025 and co-chaired by France and Costa Rica.
