After Robert Downey Jr’s confirmed return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with Avengers: Doomsday, it seems like fans are in for a new treat with another Marvel OG’s comeback. It is none other than the beloved Captain America aka Chris Evans, who popularly portrayed Steve Rogers in the MCU films for several years. The last of him as Steve was seen in the closing moments of Avengers: Endgame when he passed the shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) after deciding to get his delayed happy ending. The Endgame saw his character getting closure, with fans even believing that it might be the end of Captain America.

However, the multiverse has now opened multiple possibilities, including his most recent return in Deadpool & Wolverine as Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch. Speaking of which, Chris Evans is believed to be dipping back into the MCU for Avengers: Doomsday which has Robert Downey Jr as Dr Doom. While details about his character are yet to be revealed, it won’t be surprising if he is back as Steve Rogers. “Evans will be involved in some capacity but the extent and the exact nature of his role is unknown,” a source told The Wrap.

The upcoming Marvel project is expected to deal with multiple timelines and universities, even reuniting several of the actors from the previous films.

While Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released in 2026, it will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.

Chris Evans And Marvel

Speaking about Chris Evan’s history with the Marvels and his longtime collaborators Russo brothers who directed him in four films, Steve Rogers originated with Captain America: The First Avenger followed by other films like The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Endgame. He also had cameos in Thor: The Dark World and Spiderman: Homecoming.

Back in 2019, Steve Rogers officially stepped down as Captain America with the Endgame showing his character travelling to the past and spending his life with Peggy Carter, only to return as an old man when he hands over the shield to Wilson.

In 2023, the actor spoke to GQ, opening up on whether he wants to return to the superhero universe. “I wouldn’t want the black eye if it felt like a cash grab or if it didn’t live up to expectations or if it just felt like it wasn’t connected to that original thing,” he said.
