CID Season 2 Cast Pays Tribute To Late Actor Dinesh Phadnis AKA Freddy – News18

CID season 1 went off-air in 2018 after a successful run for 20 years on Sony TV, making it one of the longest-running shows in India.

CID, one of the most loved crime shows, is back with its second season with all the original cast, including Shivaji Satam, Aditya Srivastava and Dayanand Shetty, reuniting after a six-year hiatus. In the recent episode, team CID 2 paid a heartfelt tribute to late actor Dinesh Phadnis who played Freddy in the first season. The actor reportedly passed away due to liver damage in December last year. He was 57.

In the episode, actor Ajay Nagrath, who plays Pankaj, remembers Phadnis and says, “Freddy sir ki yaad aa gyi sir, wo humesha kaise sabko crime scene par hasaate the na. To mujhe laga main bhi thoda mood lite krdun (I remembered Freddy sir, how he always used to make everyone laugh at crime scenes. So I thought I might as well lighten the mood a little.)”

Furthermore, the makers added some clips of Freddy from the archives which left all the fans emotional.

Replying to him, ACP Pradyuman said, “Pankaj, Freddy ko hum nahi bhule hain samjhe? Lekin kam to karna padta hai (We’ve not forgotten Freddy. But the work has to be done).”

As soon as the episode went on air, several users shared the clip on social media and remembered Freddy. An X user wrote, “Freddy sir. (their expressions) Those flashbacks. A nice tribute to him … love them as they mentioned him in today’s episode. Hum bhi nahi bhule h ACP sir.”

One of them wrote, “Freddy sir ki yaad aagayi!!” – #CID team giving him a tribute in #CID2!!”

Speaking about reprising his role in CID 2, actor Dayanand Shetty said, “Daya is one of those personalities who live on in people’s minds and hearts. I’m overwhelmed by the love and affection that’s still pouring in after all these years. The memes, jokes, and references all demonstrate Daya’s impact on popular culture.”
