Sources said during the crucial Mahayuti leaders’ meeting in New Delhi, Maharashtra’s caretaker CM Shinde sought 12 ministerial berths for Shiv Sena
It’s been six days since the Maharashtra assembly election results were declared and the Mahayuti alliance emerged victorious, but suspense over the new head of the state and fresh cabinet ministers is not over yet. Sources have said that the key alliance leaders will finalise a list and fly to Delhi on Monday to meet with the BJP top brass before making an announcement.
Sources said during the crucial Mahayuti leaders’ meeting at Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s residence in New Delhi on Thursday night, Maharashtra’s caretaker Chief Minister and Shiv Sena Leader Eknath Shinde sought 12 ministerial berths for his party. They said though he was offered the deputy chief minister’s position, he wanted the home and urban development portfolios.
Speaking to CNN-News18 about Shiv Sena’s representation at the Cabinet in New Delhi, the party’s deputy leader in Lok Sabha, Dhairyasheel Sambhajirao Mane, said Eknath Shinde would prefer to stay back in Maharashtra. Mane said Eknath Shinde was likely to push for his son, Shrikant, for a cabinet berth at the Centre.
Mane said there are important portfolios in the state and discussions are being held between the Mahayuti allies (BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP).
“We hope we’ll get some clarity over the next two days,” he added.
Speaking to CNN-News18, Shiv Sena MP and senior leader Naresh Mhaske reiterated what Mane said. He said PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have assured full support to uplift Maharashtra.
He emphasised that Eknath Shinde would remain in Maharashtra as he was an MLA, adding that top party leaders will finalise who’ll get the Cabinet post at the Centre.
