Parliament Winter Session: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took oath as an MP in Lok Sabha on Thursday as the House proceedings resumed on Day 4 of the Winter Session of the Parliament. She held a copy of the Constitution while taking oath in the House.

She continued the tradition started by the INDIA bloc MPs to take oath while holding a copy of the Constitution in their hand. She also donned a Kerala Kasavu saree on the occasion in which her children were also present on the premises.

She won the Wayanad parliamentary by-poll by a record margin of over 4 lakh votes after her brother Rahul Gandhi vacated the seat following his twin-wins from Wayanad as well as Rae Bareli in the general elections this year. Rahul chose to keep Rae Bareli and vacate Wayanad for sister Priyanka.

The party had later announced the party’s general secretary as its official candidate for the seat.

With her oath-taking today, Priyanka became the latest member of the Gandhi family to sit in the Lok Sabha. Her mother Sonia Gandhi, who decided not to run in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, was a previous MP from Rae Bareli since 2004. Sonia Gandhi opted for Rajya Sabha instead as her way to the Parliament.

Winter Session of Parliament

The Winter Session of the Parliament commenced on Monday and will go on till December 20. The initial days of sittings in both Houses were wiped out due to repeated adjournments following a ruckus by the Opposition.

The Opposition has been seeking a debate on the Adani issue since the beginning of the Winter Session. Both Houses of the Parliament have seen disruptions due to this, leading to repeated adjournments.

The Opposition has also demanded a two-day discussion on the Constitution, which sources said, has been approved. However, the dates for the discussions are yet to be announced.
