DMK allies to boycott Governor’s Republic Day reception

DMK allies — Congress, CPM and VCK — on Thursday announced they will boycott the ‘At Home’ reception to be hosted by Governor R.N. Ravi on the occasion of Republic Day.

In a social media post, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai said Mr. Ravi was acting against the interest of people of the State and the elected government.

Because of him, Vice-Chancellors could not be selected for State universities. He was also not giving ascent to the bills passed by the Legislative Assembly. Condemning such act, Congress MLAs would boycott the reception and the tea party hosted by the Governor, he added.

Announcing the decision to boycott the reception, CPI(M) State secretary P. Shanmugam said Ravi was disrespecting the Constitution, the concept of co-operative federalism and practice of the Legislative Assembly and that he had lost the qualification to continue as the Governor of Tamil Nadu.

VCK also announced that it would boycott the reception, saying Mr. Ravi was acting against State autonomy.
