Eddie Hearn reveals update on Matchroom Boxing’s relationship with Conor McGregor after fighter’s civil case

Matchroom Boxing is set to review its relationship with UFC star Conor McGregor following a recent civil court verdict against him.

The boxing promotion company, which partnered with McGregor’s Forged Irish Stout last May, joins several other brands reconsidering their ties with the Irish fighter.

The development comes after McGregor was found liable for assaulting a woman at a Dublin hotel in December 2018, resulting in a substantial damages payment.

The jury found McGregor liable for assaulting Nikita Hand at the Beacon Hotel in Dublin during December 2018.

He has always denied any wrongdoing and says he will appeal the verdict but he’s currently fighting to save his career – both inside and outside of sport.

Following over six hours of deliberation, the jury ordered McGregor to pay £206,000 in damages to Ms Hand.

Several brands, including Proper No. 12 Whiskey, have already moved to distance themselves from the former UFC champion.

Eddie Hearn, speaking to Pro Boxing fans, addressed the situation directly by saying: “We gotta digest all the information which is coming out thick and fast.”

The Matchroom Boxing promoter emphasised their responsibility to review all partnerships.

“And we’ll do that in the immediate future and decide as a business what we’re gonna do,” Hearn added.

The 45-year-old’s comments suggest a thorough evaluation of their relationship with McGregor’s brand is imminent in the wake of the case.

McGregor has vowed to appeal the verdict, stating on social media platform X: “I will be appealing today’s decision.”

The Irishman also acknowledged making mistakes, particularly regarding his relationship with long-term fiancé Dee Devlin.

He added: “People want to hear from me, I needed time. I know I made mistakes.

“I have instructed my legal team to appeal the decision.

“I can’t go back and I will move forward. I am beyond grateful to my family, friends and supporters all over the world who have stayed by my side.

“That’s it. No more. Getting back to the gym – the fight game awaits!”

McGregor has not competed in the UFC since suffering a broken left leg during his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier over three years ago.

He had been due to lock horns with Michael Chandler earlier this year, only for that showdown to collapse after the Irishman suffered a broken toe.
