Erling Haaland’s Dig At Arsenal After Manchester City’s Succumb To 5-1 Defeat At Emirates – News18

After the final whistle, the 24-year-old couldn’t resist and pointed to the gold Premier League badge on his shirt- a reference to the fact that he plays for the champions, something Arsenal players cannot say about themselves.

Erling Haaland, Arsenal.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland had a stern reminder for Arsenal after the final whistle at the Emirates Stadium on February 2. The Norwegian striker scored his team’s only goal on Sunday as The Gunners ran riot in London. The Mikel Arteta-coached side scored five goals past the reigning champions to win the highly-anticipated tie 5-1.

Following an afternoon of mockery, Haaland bit back. After the final whistle, the 24-year-old couldn’t resist and pointed to the gold Premier League badge on his shirt. It was seemingly a reference to the fact that he plays for the champions, something Arsenal players cannot say about themselves.

Haaland was locked in a personal battle with Arsenal centre-back Gabriel in the high-octane affair. The Brazilian laughed in the Norwegian’s face when Martin Odegaard opened the scoring for Arsenal in only the game’s second minute. Haaland found the equaliser in the second half with 35 minutes left to play. He escaped Brazilian’s clutches to head Manchester City level.

Within seven minutes, the duo of Thomas Partey and Myles Lewis-Skelly added another couple of goals to give The Gunners a significant lead. Lewis-Skelly even copied Erling Haaland’s celebration, hitting his signature meditation pose after scoring his first senior goal in the Premier League. Just when Gabriel had one final dig, the Norwegian couldn’t resist but answer back with a cheeky gesture.

After the crushing defeat, Erling Haaland’s father Alfie also responded to the non-stop trolling of his son on social media. Quoting a celebratory post from Arsenal on X (formerly Twitter) after the match, he wrote – “This Team» that wins everything. Ehhhhh, not.” He added a blue heart emoji at the end of his scornful retort to show his support for his son’s club.

Haaland was a force to reckon with in his debut season with Manchester City. He won the treble in his first campaign with the Cityzens before leading them to a successful league title defence last year. Now that the Pep Guardiola-led side is 15 points adrift of top-placed Liverpool, it is unlikely that the Norway International will be able to guide them to another title triumph at the end of this season.

Manchester City are fourth in the Premier League with 41 points from 24 matches. They will next compete in the English top flight on February 15. The league champions will take on Newcastle United at the Etihad.
