Nagavelli Rajalinga Murthy, husband of the former municipal councillor Sarala, was allegedly stabbed to death by miscreants in the heart of Bhupalpally, the district headquarters town of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, on Wednesday night.
The gruesome murder of Murthy, 52, who had filed a petition in the local court against the persons at the helm in the previous BRS government last year over the sinking of pillars of the Medigadda barrage of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) during the BRS rule, sent shock waves in the coal town.
Sources said that Murthy was allegedly waylaid by miscreants at Ambedkar Centre and brutally attacked with knives, leaving him in a pool of blood on the main road. The assailants fled the scene soon after the incident.
A profusely bleeding Murthy was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. The Bhupalpally police have registered a case and deployed special teams to track down the assailants.
Sources added that Murthy had also filed several other petitions in land related, and other issues in the past. Police are yet to determine the exact motive behind the brutal murder.
