Gmail Could Soon Let You Have Free Email Addresses That Can Be Deleted: What It Means – News18
Last Updated:
Gmail users could soon get the option to create multiple aliases for their primary ID and share it with third-party services.
What if we tell you that soon Gmail will allow you to set up multiple email aliases that can mask your original ID and keep it secure from possible intrusion. Yes, the Google-run platform could have a new feature called Shielded Email in the works. The details of this rumoured tool come via Android Authority, who have spotted traces of the new feature in the latest Gmail app for Android users.
Gmail Shielded Email: What It Might Offer
As the name suggests, Gmail will help you shield your primary email address with this feature. The report says, if you want to share your email ID with multiple people but are worried about privacy in the long run, shielded emails will be your temporary address on which they can mail you. The original mail does come to your new email ID’s inbox but then you can also forward it to your main ID.
Gmail is likely to give you the power to delete that email ID when you feel it has served its purpose. It is possible that Gmail will allow this feature to work only when you want to receive mail and not while sending one. After all, the whole system might become complex if Gmail has to decide which email ID of yours to show on the label. The shielded email option has been spotted in the Autofill section which is interesting.
Since the feature is still in its early development phase, we can’t even be sure if Google will bring it to the final version. For now, we are just happy to see Google consider a helpful tool like these, even though they are available with other services and that too for free.
Google is also bringing its new Gemini AI tools to the mailing platform, which helps you draft emails based on your tone and mood. These AI features are available for select users but gradually the company should bring it for everyone, which has been done with Gemini Live for Android users.
