Former cricketers and die-hard fans were ecstatic seeing Indian women’s team defend its title at the 2025 Under-19 Women’s World Cup in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. The Niki Prasad-led group defeated South Africa by nine wickets to seal the title at the tournament. They became the first Indian team to retain an Under-19 World Cup title and the first in the two-edition-old championship to lift the trophy without losing a match.
The foundation was laid by the bowlers, with all-rounder Gongadi Trisha taking three wickets and Aayushu Shukla and Vaishnavi Sharma chipping in with two each. In the second innings, India sent finisher G Kamalini to open but she was dismissed for 8 (13), but Trisha (44 off 33) and Sanika Chalke (26 off 22) finished things off with their unbeaten partnership. Trisha was awarded the Player of the Match and Series.
Former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop was one of the first to share his reactions on X (formerly Twitter).
He said: “Congratulations to India’s women’s U19 team on defending their ICC T20🏆 . They are well ahead of any other team in their development, skill and awareness . Future is so bright for Indian women’s cricket.”

Chak de India! First team to do it without dropping a game! Now that’s how you defend a title, as comprehensive as it can get from India!
Trisha leading from the front with bat and ball and has put in a tremendous show in the knockouts too.
Hopefully, the system will take care…
