Haiti – Conversation between M. Jean-Noël Barrot and his Haitian counterpart, Mr Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste (29 Jan. 2025)

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, M. Jean-Noël Barrot, spoke today to his Haitian counterpart, Mr Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Worship.

The two ministers reviewed the situation in Haiti. The [French] Minister reaffirmed France’s support for the transitional authorities and for a restoration of the country’s security that must lead to the organization of safe and free elections. France feels solidarity with Haitian victims of the violence perpetrated by criminal armed groups. Since 2023 France has increased its support for Haiti’s National Police and for the Multinational Security Support Mission authorized by the United Nations. Jean-Noël Barrot emphasized France’s desire to continue its humanitarian and food aid to provide relief to the most vulnerable people.

Haiti and France share unwavering ties forged by history, by an attachment to our shared language and by our neighbourhood relations in the Caribbean. The two ministers welcomed our excellent relations.
