Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has dropped the first teaser for its maiden electric scooter for the Indian market. Dubbed the ‘Honda Activa Electric’ on the internet, the first teaser of the upcoming electric scooter shows off its LED headlamp. The teaser previews a design language, which appears decidedly different from the current Honda Activa. Notably, the design is likely to be different from the Honda CUV e:, recently announced for the European market.

HMSI is one of the biggest two-wheeler makers in India and will be the fourth legacy two-wheeler maker after Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor Company, and Hero MotoCorp to enter the electric two-wheeler space in India. The brand will be competing not just against existing players but also newer players including Ather Energy, Ola Electric, and the like.

Notably, the start-ups have done most of the heavy lifting when it comes to creating the market for electric two-wheelers. The upcoming Honda electric scooter then will have its work cut out for itself to not just take on the established players – new and old – but also establish a bigger presence right from the start.
Honda Activa Electric: What To Expect?
There are no details available on the Honda Activa Electric. Going by the LED headlamp styling, the e-scooter is expected to get futuristic styling that’s likely to keep the functional quotient intact. Also, expect to see a host of features including a digital console with advanced connectivity features via Bluetooth, over-the-air OTA updates, built-in navigation, fast charging and more.
The upcoming Honda e-scooter could offer a range of 100 km on a single charge, which would mean a fixed battery pack of around 3-4 kWh. It’ll be interesting to see if the company opts for a mid-drive motor or a BLDC hub motor with a top speed of around 70-80 kmph.
Honda’s maiden electric offering will be the first of many EVs to come from the manufacturer. The company previously announced it plans to bring an electric scooter with a removable battery pack, while an e-motorcycle is also said to be in the works.
