Chinese apps are regularly facing the heat in India and the country’s government is mindful about the number of platforms available to its users.
The order from the government demands these apps are removed from the app store
Chinese apps are at risk in India once again and the country’s government has reportedly ordered blocking of around 119 apps that originate from the region. We have already seen popular apps like TikTok, ShareIt banned in India since 2020 and it is likely to include more platforms going by the latest order issued by the Ministry.
The report from Moneycontrol on Thursday quotes the order and the response of the developers affected by the major decision.
Chinese Ban Continues In India
The report says the government has mostly targeted video and voice chat apps from China and Hong Kong, and the number is around 119 apps as per leading sites that track government orders. Interestingly, the report says only 15 of these 119 apps have actually been blocked in the country so far, and over 100 of them are easily available on the Play Store for download.
The developers affected by these orders have been quoted saying they still don’t have clarity about their name on the list and why their platform is seen as a risk by the government of India. This is not the first time apps from the region have been blocked in the country and
TikTok is probably one of the biggest casualties of the ongoing tension between China and India. The government has often cited IT rules with national security as the main reason for blocking these apps in the country and it seems that trend is unlikely to end anytime soon.
Google is forced to act on legal requests which is why these apps are blocked almost right away and stopping people from installing the app on their devices.
