Apple is back with the premium upgrade strategy and now its target is the iPhone SE model which has been discontinued along with another popular version.

Apple unveiled its so-called budget iPhone model on Wednesday and unlike what most of us thought it is called the 16E. This new iPhone carries a lot of modern traits from the iPhone 14 and now also gets support for Face ID and AI features.

But the launch of a new iPhone comes with a casualty every year and this time there are two of them. Apple has confirmed that the iPhone 14 and the SE 2022 model have now been discontinued which means the lineup starts from the 2023 iPhone 15 in the market.

So Long, iPhone SE

The iPhone 16E launch was not expected. But the event teaser from Tim Cook earlier this month where he said, the newest member of the family, kind of gave away the possible change incoming. To be fair, we had talked about the sense of going with iPhone 16E rather than SE 4 for the new model, especially if you were going to have it powered by the new A18 chipset, support AI features and other upgrades like Face ID and new Apple C1 modem.

Bringing these upgrades to the SE 4 would have been exciting but it would have limited the room for Apple to increase its price.

That’s where the 16E has made it possible for the company to end the affordable lineup, and bring a new model that is now at par with a lot of Android flagship phones in the market, albeit with some big concessions.

Making the iPhone 15 the most affordable model at Rs 70,000 doesn’t sound budget anymore and it seems Apple is now clearly playing its premium cards and enticing people to spend more on something new.

Not The End Of iPhone 14

But like we say every time, just because Apple has discontinued the iPhone 14 does not mean you cannot buy the model anymore. In fact, this model could be easily available in the offline and online market with higher discounts as the sellers look to clear their stocks in the coming months. The iPhone 14 will also get its stipulated iOS upgrades which is applicable for a few more years.
