IPL 2025 Schedule Live Updates: Hello and a very warm welcome to our live coverage for the fixtures announcement for the Indian Premier League (IPL)’s upcoming 2025 season. The fixtures will be released live on Star Sports and JioHotstar, with the coverage starting at 5:30 pm IST. We’ll give you all the latest updates here with additional analysis.
The 2025 edition is likely to retain the same format as last year, featuring 10 teams — Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, SunRisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants.
These teams will compete in 74 matches. There has been quite a lot of contrasting reporting on the start date of the tournament, with various BCCI officials also claiming different ones ranging from March 21-23.
IPL 2024 winners Kolkata Knight Riders’ home ground, the iconic Eden Gardens, is likely to host the first match and the final, as per the tournament’s tradition. The Knight Riders will reportedly face Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who put on a staggering run to reach the top-four, to open the season.
If the same format as IPL 2024 is followed, which is the expectation, the 10 teams will be divided into two groups, with each team playing 14 games in the league stage. The top two teams in the points table will then clash in the first qualifier, while the third and fourth-placed teams play the eliminator.
The loser of the first qualifier and the winner of the Eliminator then meet in the second qualifier. The winner here reaches the final against the winner of the first qualifier.
The tournament is likely to be played across at least 12 cities this time. Apart from each franchise’s homes, Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings hold some of their matches in Guwahati and Dharamshala respectively.
