Is Apple Working On Watch Straps With New Built-In Health Sensors? Know More – News18
Last Updated:
Apple is looking at new ways to integrate its advanced health sensors to the wearable and straps could be its next target.
Apple is reportedly planning to include medical sensors into the straps of future Apple Watch models, potentially adding functionalities similar to the blood pressure monitoring feature seen in the Huawei Watch D2. Known for providing advanced health insights, these wearables are increasingly viewed as medical-grade devices.
TechRadar reports that speculation began circulating online after Patently Apple uncovered a new patent, numbered 12133743, titled “Fabric-Based Items with Stretchable Bands.” This patent outlines how sensors could be embedded within a flexible fabric band, potentially enabling the detection of various health metrics, including blood pressure, ECG readings, respiration rates, and more.
In addition to healthcare features, the patent suggests that the fabric’s circuitry could support wireless power reception, potentially enabling remote charging. The circuit could also facilitate wireless communication with external devices, allowing the gadget to exchange data seamlessly when connected to an iPhone or Mac.
Apple already offers stretchable fabric bands with its Apple Watches, and this new concept could be incorporated into future Apple Watch models. According to TechRadar, Apple also envisions this technology being applied to various other types of clothing, including caps, gloves, athletic wear, and belts, broadening its practical uses across wearable tech.
The patent further suggests that this technology could work effectively in “a headband with elastic fabric,” reminiscent of the band used in Apple’s Vision Pro Max device.
Apple also addresses potential concerns related to the durability and maintenance of the fabric strap. Fabric-based items, it notes, can become challenging to clean and maintain if not properly designed. To mitigate this, the new design incorporates high-temperature resistance, enabling the straps to be washed and dried without sustaining damage. This makes the band both functional and practical for daily use.
