Panic gripped residents of Indiranagar after a knife-wielding man went on a slashing spree attacking five people, including two panipuri vendors, on Saturday (February 8, 2025) night. All the five sustained injuries, but are out of danger.
A message on social media and WhatsApp groups, which claimed there was a serial killer on the loose in the area and asked people to be alert, went viral the next day.
However, police have clarified that there is no serial killer on the loose in the area and the criminal has been identified as Kadamba, who is in his mid-twenties and a former rowdy sheeter with Indiranagar Police Station. Four special teams have been formed to track down the suspect and arrest him.
“A total of five people were stabbed by the man, probably in an inebriated state. We have registered five FIRs, and have booked him for attempt to murder and robbery. We have identified him and efforts are on to track him down,” D. Devaraj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Division), Bengaluru City Police said.
The accused attacked four people with a knife in a matter of less than half an hour between 9.30 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Saturday night and later around 2.30 a.m., attacked a bike taxi rider, snatched his bike and fled from the area, police have now said.
I Change Indiranagar, a federation of Residents Welfare Associations of Indiranagar, also took to social media asking residents not to panic and assuring them that a serial killer was not on the loose in the area.
