Leonardo wins Bahrain radar deal | MEED

Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications has contracted Leonardo to upgrade radar systems at Manama Airport.

The agreement involves installing Leonardo’s advanced radar technologies at the Manama Airport including the ATCR 33S NG primary surveillance radar and SIR S/I secondary surveillance radar.

The ATCR 33S NG primary surveillance radar utilises a range of processing technologies enabling specific parameters to be customised to any site configuration and boost operational performances.

These upgrades will provide real-time, high-resolution surveillance, improving Bahrain’s air traffic management capabilities.

Spanning three years until early 2027, the supply contract also includes on-site installation and comprehensive in-service support.

This radar systems upgrade is a strategic enhancement of Bahrain’s air traffic management capacity.

In June this year, Leonardo announced its Grottaglie factory in southern Italy will close for up to four months due to delays from Boeing’s manufacturing issues.

The plant, located in Puglia, has been impacted by slower production and delivery of the Boeing 787, for which it was specifically designed to assemble fuselage sections.
