Leopards spotted in north Bengaluru over the last few days

Two leopards have been spotted in the Bengaluru Urban range of Bengaluru North sub-division in the last few days. Forest officials confirmed the presence of the two animals in Shivakotte Gram Panchayat limits and surrounding villages.

Alert sounded

Range Forest Officer, Bengaluru Urban range, Shivappa Hossamani said that the movement of the big cats has come to the notice of the Forest Department which in turn informed residents to be alert.

“We have conducted a public awareness camp and advised the residents to be cautious. We also brought in experts who have explained on what measures should be taken if humans encounter leopards,” Mr. Hossamani said.

He also said that officials have been carrying out night patrolling for the last few days and have also set up cages to capture the two leopards. “However the leopards have been elusive so far,” he said.

A video has also been doing the rounds on WhatsApp groups of resident welfare associations of two leopards roaming around Ramagondanahalli.

CCTV camera footage from a house has captured the two leopards wandering around the parking area on the night of January 23.

Officials added that a couple of days ago residents alerted the movement of a leopard in Electronics City. However it was found that the animal was a wild cat.
