Microsoft Paint is getting new AI features via Copilot which will be coming to dedicated Windows 11 PCs soon.
Microsoft has updated the Paint app and enhanced Windows Search in a new Windows 11 Insider Preview build that has rolled out in the last few days. The Canary and Dev channels of Windows Insider are currently offering the latest beta release.
As a result, a new Copilot menu now brings AI features to Microsoft Paint. In addition to this, files saved in OneDrive are supported by Windows Search and its new semantic indexing. It is worth pointing out that the Copilot+ PCs with Snapdragon will soon include similar features.
Microsoft described the new features that the upcoming Windows 11 beta release will bring in a blog post. These features are available in the Canary and Dev channels and are included in the Windows 11 Insider preview build version 26120.3073 (KB5050090). When these features may be made available to all customers worldwide has not been disclosed by the tech giant.
Over the past two years, Microsoft has been incorporating AI-powered features into the Paint program. By using the user’s doodled content as input, the Cocreator feature can produce AI graphics. The degree of AI improvement applied to the drawn image can also be fine-tuned by the user. In a similar vein, Image Creator is a text-to-image application that creates images for the user based on a text prompt and style selection.
Paint also offers a feature called Generative Erase that lets users remove undesired objects from images and replace them with a background that is created and blended. Lastly, users may simply click to remove the backdrop from any image using the Remove backdrop tool.
With the latest version, a Copilot menu—located close to the toolbar’s right side—now contains all of these images. Clicking on the dropdown menu will display all of the features that are accessible along with a brief description. Notably, only Copilot+ PCs have the Cocreator feature.
Microsoft is also extending the Search semantic indexing feature which will now work with files and images stored in the OneDrive cloud storage. Only Copilot+ PC users will be able to utilise this feature.
