Mac users often feel proud about spending lakhs on secure and hack-proof machines but that has changed in recent years and now things are getting worse. Microsoft’s security team has warned about a dangerous malware for macOS devices taking shape that can cause havoc and steal data without raising an alarm. The Threat Intelligence team at Microsoft has discovered the malware and highlighted the nature of its attack and how damaging it can be for the users.
Mac Malware Threat: Time To Worry?
The security team has warned about the XCSSET malware which is not new but is claimed to have become funkier and able to hide its presence within apps much better. This malware was first reported back in 2020 and now it seems to have gotten stronger which makes it hard to detect and the attack on Mac machines are much more dangerous for the users.
The biggest change with XCSSET is that hackers can use the malware to create other malicious apps that can be picked up via the Mac App Store, which reduces the suspicion among the users.
That’s not all, the malware, once it enters the vulnerable device, can be used to control the apps on the Mac and ensure that you end up using the malicious version of the Mac app on your device. Getting this level of control means it makes the hacker’s job easy to steal confidential data like passwords from your device that can even become a danger to your bank account.
Mac users are obviously going to need more protection for their device but they equally have to be careful about what they install and from where. As we usually say, always download Mac apps from the genuine company app stores, and only click on links from people you fully trust.
