Pawar’s comments came after the announcement that the oath-taking ceremony for the new Maharashtra government will take place on December 5 in Mumbai
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Ajit Pawar on Saturday confirmed that the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra will be from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with two Deputy Chief Ministers to be chosen from the remaining parties in the Mahayuti-led government.
Pawar’s comments came after the announcement that the oath-taking ceremony for the new Maharashtra government will take place on December 5 at 5 PM at Azad Maidan, Mumbai.
“During the meeting (Delhi meeting of Mahayuti leader) it was decided that Mahayuti will form the government with CM from BJP and the remaining two parties will have DCMs,” Pawar said.
The NCP chief further noted that this is not the first time there has been a delay in government formation. “If you remember, in 1999, it took one month to form the government,” he added.
Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule confirmed on X that the oath-taking ceremony will be held on December 5.
“Oath-taking ceremony of the Maha-Yuti Government in Maharashtra. It will be held in the presence of the pride of the world, Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 5 PM at Azad Maidan, Mumbai,” Bawankule wrote in his post.

While the date for the ceremony and the confirmation of the BJP’s CM candidate are clear, there is still no official word on who will be appointed as the Chief Minister. The announcements come amid rising suspense over who will lead the Mahayuti-ruled state.
Earlier today, BJP ally Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Shirsat mentioned that the oath-taking ceremony for the new CM is scheduled for December 2. He also revealed that Maharashtra’s caretaker Chief Minister and party chief leader Eknath Shinde is expected to make a significant political decision in the next 24 hours, suggesting that the suspense around the next Chief Minister would soon end, with an announcement likely by midnight.

However, following Shirsat’s comments, reports emerged that Shinde, who is currently in his village of Satara, is unwell. A team of doctors has visited him to assess his condition.
Meanwhile, a crucial meeting between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and alliance leaders took place in Delhi on Thursday night, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reportedly offered Shinde the position of Deputy Chief Minister in Maharashtra.
It is worth noting that December 5, 2024, is considered an auspicious day in the Hindu calendar. It coincides with Vinayaka Chaturthi, a day dedicated to Lord Ganesh.
