IND vs AUS:
The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is reportedly set to rejoin the squad mid-way into the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series played at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the Indian captain, is expected to be with the squad on November 24, the third day of the first Test. His departure was delayed due to the birth of his second child.
The report has confirmed with the concerned officials within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he would be a part of the squad on Sunday.
In Rohit’s absence, Jasprit Bumrah is set to lead the side. The pace spearhead had revealed before the opening Test that he got some words of wisdom from the captain himself which helped him get a better idea of how to lead the side.
Rohit, according to reports will likely take part in the warm-up game against the Prime Minister’s XI ahead of the second Test in Adelaide which will be a day-night affair with the pink ball as well. The arrival of the Indian skipper will be a massive boost to the side as he remains a key figure within the side as a captain and a batter at the top of the order.
It remains to be seen who will take up Rohit’s position opening the batting. It is suggested that both KL Rahul and Abhimanyu Easwaran are the front-runners to take up the role but it is yet to be confirmed whether the Indian team will opt for Rahul’s experience or take a punt with Easwaran and hand him a debut.
India could also have more absences with Shubman Gill possibly missing out on the opening Test after a thumb fracture during practice. While his absence is not confirmed, the team management could take a call regarding his participation keeping the rest of the series in mind.
India will look to defend the Border-Gavaskar Trophy title as they also want to keep their chances of securing a spot in the World Test Championship (2023-25) cycle as India would need to win four and draw one out of the five-match Test series against the Aussies to confirm their spot.
