Ruben Amorim ‘Stunned’ After First Training Session With Manchester United Players – News18

Managing the likes of Manchester United comes with the weight of the world on one’s shoulders. Ruben Amorim has most definitely felt the same as the new United boss was reportedly left ‘stunned’ at the standard of play amongst the current squad after their first training session together.
Amorim, who is taking over the reins from Erik ten Hag, is United’s sixth permanent appointment in the past 11 years since legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson left the club.
Flaunting a stellar resume, which includes his two Portuguese Liga title wins with Sporting CP, Amorim conducted his first team training session with United earlier this week.
Players like Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro, Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro have already rejoined the club after serving their respective national teams. They all were available for the first practice session under Amorim.
The 39-year-old manager oversaw some drills in training before setting up an intra-squad friendly to evaluate the understanding between his players, as reported by Daily Mail.
It’s no news that the Portuguese has been left a mountain to climb, but according to reports from The Sun, Amorim was left stunned at the sheer lack of quality, especially with respect to pace and stamina, amongst the players in the club.
This should come as no surprise though to Amorim, given the Red Devils’ sluggish play over the past few seasons that has garnered them little to no sustainable success except for one FA Cup last season.
During his time at Sporting Lisbon, Amorim had mostly used a 3-4-3 formation, allowing his midfielders to control the game. His strategy remained the same in the practice match at Carrington, as the Portuguese will aim to inject some much needed intensity into the side.
Casemiro and Marcus Rashford have already praised how much they have enjoyed training under Amorim and the young manager’s arrival could turnaround their disappointing season.
The ex-Portugal midfielder will be presented in his first press conference as Manchester United boss at Carrington on Friday afternoon, ahead of facing Ipswich Town at the weekend.
