With its compelling pitches and insightful business discussions, Shark Tank India Season 4 is capturing viewers’ attention and leaving them hooked to their television screens. Now, the recent episode showed the season’s first face-offround. Bringing a unique competitive dynamic to the forefront, two innovative plant-based companies, Nurturing Green and Kyari, pitched their distinct business models to the Shark Tank panel.
This head-to-head competition allowed the sharks to gain a deeper understanding of the plant-based industry and directly compare their offerings, strengths, weaknesses, and growth trajectories. The competition will ultimately influence the sharks’ investment decisions.
The latest episode opened to show Annu Grover, the founder of Nurturing Green, offering a compelling pitch. Emphasising the emotional and lifetime value of plants over traditional bouquets, he said, “We are not just selling plants; we are selling a lifetime of memories and experiences. Our plants become an integral part of our customers’ lives, providing a sense of joy, comfort, and tranquillity. We’re committed to helping people nurture their relationships with nature and with each other.”
With an impressive 14-year track record in the industry, Nurturing Green has carved a niche for itself in home decor, home gardening, and corporate gifting, establishing a loyal customer base through its innovative offerings.
For their company, Annu sought Rs 1 crore for 1 percent equity. Following the pitch, Vineeta Singh made an offer of Rs 50 lakh for 1.25 percent equity, with Rs 50 lakh in debt at 10 percent interest over three years. With no competing offers, Annu quickly nodded and accepted Vineeta’s proposal for Nurturing Green.
Next up were Agam Choudhary and Saksham Jain, the founders of Kyari, who impressed the sharks with their cutting-edge self-watering plant tools and the Hydrating Pen.
Explaining their mission, founder and CEO Agam said, “Our products are designed to add aesthetic value in any space. We are adding life to spaces and innovating the gardening space of the country. We are on a mission to make plant care easy and accessible.”
While the brand impressed the sharks with their design and user-friendly products, concerns about brand recall and customer engagement sparked a thought-provoking discussion about the company’s growth strategy.
Kyari pitched for Rs 80 lakhs in exchange for 0.8 percent equity, valuing the company at Rs 100 crore. To this, Peyush Bansal and Kunal Bahl made a joint offer of Rs 3 crore for 7.5 percent equity from Kunal and Rs 1 crore for 2.5 percentequity from Peyush, valuing the company at Rs 40 crore.
Agam and Saksham countered with an offer of Rs 1.6 crore for 2 percent equity, valuing the company at Rs 80 crore. Anupam Mittal called it a good counteroffer, but Peyush and Kunal disagreed.
Kunal urged, “Train chhoot rahi hai. Jaldi bolo. You are getting two of the best sharks.” Despite the pressure, the pitchers held firm on their valuation. Kunal then offered to raise the valuation to Rs 45 crore, emphasising decisiveness, saying, “Great founders are decisive. Gajar mooli nahi karte. Say yes or no.” However, the pitchers remained steadfast, and the sharks withdrew their offer.
