UN – Human Rights Day (10 Dec. 2024)

Ministerial meeting for advancing peace in Sudan - New York (25 September 2024)

UN – Human Rights Day (10 Dec. 2024)

France reaffirms its commitment to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted on December 10, 1948, in Paris. This declaration enshrines the universal, indivisible, inalienable nature of human rights, whose realization depends on justice and respect for the rule of law.

France pays tribute to all those around the world who risk their lives and liberty to fight for human rights. On the occasion of Human Rights Day, the “Liberté-Égalité-Fraternité” Human Rights Prize of the French Republic and the Franco-German Prize for Human Rights and the Rule of Law will be awarded to men and women from various parts of the world who carry out this struggle on a daily basis.

On this December 10th, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot will meet with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk.

Mr. Türk will take part in an event chaired by France’s Ambassador for Human Rights, Isabelle Rome. It will be attended by human rights activists including Marianne Initiative laureates, institutional actors and civil society. This meeting will emphasize the fact that the rights of women and girls are central to human rights. It will highlight the fight against violence directed at women and girls in the digital environment, in line with the adoption of a resolution on this topic introduced to the UN General Assembly by France and the Netherlands and the launch, this past March, of the Laboratory for Women’s Rights Online, a multi-actor platform dedicated to combating the plague of online gender-based violence.
